Message from the Borough of Longport Office of Emergency Management
All Longport residents are acutely aware that we recently experienced a “State of Emergency” snow storm event. This rare storm brought all of us together including: residents, first responders, our Public Works Department and the remainder of our ancillary support staff.
The Office of Emergency Management deeply regrets that we cannot plow out every individual driveway or car after a snow event. It is imperative that our number one priority remains overall public safety and this includes providing access to every Longport street and each Longport home for the timely response of our police, ambulance and fire personnel and equipment. Therefore, we highly recommend that each individual home owner make their own arrangements before a storm event to have plowing solutions addressed prior to an emergent event. There are a number of contractors, property managers or landscapers that provide these individual services.
Let me take this time to further remind everyone to always be prepared to ‘shelter in place’ for a period of at least 72 hours. That means we encourage you to have adequate drinking water, non-perishable food, blankets, battery-powered lights, etc.
The Borough is doing its part to prepare for every and all types of emergencies and we need each resident to do the same to attain the safest Longport that we can possibly have.
Happy New Year!
Bruce Funk, Coordinator Office of Emergency Management
